Car Communities Are (Mostly) Garbage

The advent of social media has allowed us to socialise with people from all over the world in an instant, pulling the world closer together. This has also allowed for communities of like-minded people to get together within their fingertips. In line with this, there are various communities for owners of a particular car to get together and share ideas and thoughts about their rides - even become a trading ground for cars or spare parts.

Currently in possession of at least three different cars of different categories, I have at least joined groups relevant to each and every one of them. I have always recommended people to join car groups whenever I'm questioned by friends because I very much lack the technical knowledge about these cars. Look at Mercedes, for instance. I spent about two decades in my life riding in them, but that still won't guarantee me absolute knowledge for these things. Same goes to Wira and especially the Spectra, which is my latest addition to the Garage.

However, while the idea of these communities being formed is one of a noble cause, it often falls short and it usually happens as it grows wildly. Of course, there are instances where the moderators effectively take action whenever and wherever possible in order to maintain order, but in most cases, it either escalate to something that they cannot handle, or just couldn't be bothered - and in fact even contribute to the low-quality of the communities that they're supposed to maintain.

It becomes even worse when said car community is a place where ALL car enthusiasts of different makes and models gather together. What was founded on the basis of uniting everyone regardless of background immediately becomes the breeding ground for endless toxicity with groups of people constantly in disagreement with one another, ruining the mood. In some cases, even the moderator would pick a side, which doesn't help with the idea of united harmony at all in which case, you're better off running away because you'll never want to be anywhere near a garbage for a prolonged period of time.

Now look, I'm not saying ALL car communities are like this, hence the title. I have joined many other car communities and some of them are very well-mannered and extremely resourceful, even if I don't own the car of that community. But the fact remains is that most of the car communities here are pure garbage, and I'm honestly rooting for a change where more and more people can just get along with and look after one another. I have left a handful because I got tired of how toxic it can be in there, even though the members are an entire generation apart from me.

I guess the only strategy now is join a community, gather as many useful information as you can, and then get the hell out. Or you can just be completely ignorant and only chime in when you need something important. To each of their own. Me? I just prefer riding solo, only needing help when something is far beyond my expertise.

That is all for today's short entry. See you next time!

My Wira's Massive Transformation - What's Next?

It's been a while since I updated here, but a lot has happened between now and then. One such major change would be my Wira's massive transformation and wow, what a difference it has been since I first picked up the car in 2017 with Dad... The shade is called Atlantic Blue, first seen on the Proton Suprima S in 2013, and I must say that it really make the Wira just POP. Sure, the weeks that followed made me realised that there are quite a lot of blue cars, but I say mine is the most distinctive for the time-being and it certainly beats having peeling paint and rust spots previously. I would go as far as saying that it almost reminds me of a certain Subaru model... Pair that with a set of white RPO1 rims, the car has pretty much - at least, aesthetically - transformed to a different beast. If I am to be honest, the paint job - to put it mildly - could do with some improvements. I'm yet to visit a detailing shop to ask and see what can be done to make it better, though I'...

A Brief Introduction

After not blogging for a very long time, I've decided to start from scratch. Yes, I already have an existing blog page , but I intend on keeping that for some things that aren't car-related. I started this blog to complement my Instagram which you can follow here  and I'll be sharing more car-related topics such as reviews and stories soon. As I am now working, though, updates won't be that frequent, but I will try my best, so stay tuned!

My 2001 Wira 1.3 Aeroback - Four Years On

Four years ago yesterday, my dad and I went to pick up this old junk of a car from Cheras. Little did I know that what was supposed to be an interim ended up becoming the catalyst to a love-hate relationship that still continues to this day. Despite eventually spending a total of RM10,000 onto it, it hasn't changed much in terms of appearance. If anything, it looked worse than before. But that's just the effect of sun and rain beating down on the already-horrible paint over time, and I honestly couldn't care less. I then begin doing stupid things to it, and learnt in the process that doing lab rat experiments on your one and only daily driver was a horrible thing to do. In the image above, I had MINES Hi-Lo Adjustable Coilovers fitted together with a straight pipe that replaces the back box, giving my Wira the infamous "perang" noise that is the norm with boy-racers. It sounded violent, obnoxious and the whole experience in the cabin - even in the SS15 traffic jam...
